Saiful Haque, general secretary of Revolutionary Workers Party, said that under the influence of bureaucrats, decisions against public interest are being taken one after another. The question has arisen whether the bureaucrats are holding the government hostage. The government should not be misled by the advice of the bureaucrats who had nothing to do with the uprising of the students-workers-masses.
He said these things at a protest rally organized by Revolutionary Workers Party in front of the National Press Club on Sunday (January 19) titled 'Protect people from the burden of increased VAT and taxes, stop the attack and oppression of tribal students'.
Saiful Haque said that the interim government is not paying any attention to eliminating discrimination in the state and society. As much as the government is interested in political reforms, the government is not so interested in eliminating the endless inequalities in the society. However, if economic and political inequality cannot be eliminated, political reform will not serve much purpose, political reform will not be sustainable.
He said, the market situation is still very rough. The government cannot control the market in any way. After 5 and a half months of controlling the market, people do not want to hear any more excuses from the government. People will not be able to accept good political reforms if they cannot provide relief and security to the people.
Saiful Haque strongly condemned and protested the terrorist and police attack on the tribal students and said that the attack was a mass coup, an anti-national force. Their activities will further fuel the politics of violence and division. The attackers must be arrested and brought to justice immediately.
Party's Dhaka Metropolitan Committee President Mir Mofazzal Hossain Moshtaq also spoke in this rally, party's political council member Bahnishikha Jamali, Akbar Khan and others. After the rally, the party's protest march passed through Topkhana Road, Vijaynagar and ended in front of the party's central office at Segunbagicha.
