Islami Andolan Bangladesh has announced a new committee by changing the central leadership. Senior Joint Secretary General and Spokesperson Maulana Gazi Ataur Rahman has been appointed as the new Secretary General of the party. At the same time, the party announced the names of four joint general secretaries, four assistant general secretaries and a 54-member central council.
Amir of the party Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim announced the new committee in a special meeting of the Central Majlish Shura held at a hotel in the capital on Saturday.
According to the Islamic movement, the meeting discussed the upcoming local government elections and the current political situation in addition to reviewing the post-election activities. After reviewing the organizational activities of the 2025-26 session, the new leadership was formed before the end of the term to make the party more cohesive and dynamic.
Muhammad Ashraful Alam, Sheikh Fazle Bari Masood, Shah Iftekhar Tariq and Muhammad Neshar Uddin have been appointed as Joint Secretary Generals according to the decision of the Shura Council of the Islamic Movement. Syed Eshaq Muhammad Abul Khair, Ahmad Abdul Qayyum, KM Atiqur Rahman and Sheikh Fazlul Karim Maruf have been made Assistant Secretary General.
Yunus Ahmed, who has been serving as the General Secretary since 2008, has been made a member of the party’s highest policy-making council, the Presidium. Apart from this, the name of the 54-member central council was also announced in the meeting.
Rezaul Karim said in the president’s speech at the meeting, Islami Andolan Bangladesh is not a traditional political party; Full compliance and implementation of Shariah is their main goal.
Stating that political strategies are determined in the light of Sharia and Islam, he said, the party should be more efficient and well-organized by learning from the changing times. He also commented that the continuous failure of the country’s political parties has increased the responsibility of meeting the expectations of the people.
