International Criminal Tribunal-1 chairman Justice Golam Mortuza Majumdar’s mobile phone has been hacked. As a result, Facebook and WhatsApp on his mobile have been disabled. A General Diary (GD) has been made in Shahbagh Police Station mentioning these matters.
The Registrar of the Tribunal, Mahmudul Hasan, gave this information on Tuesday (March 24) night.
It is known that it has been possible to seize his mobile phone for the time being. However, the judge’s Facebook and WhatsApp accounts have not yet been brought under his control
He said that on March 18, the chairman of the tribunal’s Facebook and WhatsApp IDs were hacked. Still in the same condition. The chairman of the tribunal is not responsible for what happened from the WhatsApp and Facebook accounts during this period. He said that today he has written to BTRC to take action in this regard.
A copy of the GD has been sent to the Home Secretary and Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner. It is said that his Facebook and WhatsApp accounts have been confiscated.
According to court sources, on March 17, an error occurred on his mobile phone, but he did not realize that the phone was at risk of security. Later, before realizing the matter, his Facebook and WhatsApp accounts were confiscated.
When he could not use the mobile phone on March 22, he informed ICT prosecutor and digital forensics expert Tanveer Hasan Joha. Joha later removed the remote control software from the device.
Tanveer Hasan Joha said that the incident may occur due to the judge inadvertently clicking on a fraudulent link or downloading an unauthorized application.
He said, for the time being, it has been possible to seize the mobile phone. However, the judge’s Facebook and WhatsApp accounts have not yet been brought under his control.
On the same day, the International Criminal Tribunal has sent a letter to the Chairman of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) to take urgent action in this regard. The letter requested necessary action to be taken within the next seven working days.
