The Yogi government of Uttar Pradesh has geared up for the privatization of electricity distribution companies (DISCOMs). First of all, Dakshinanchal and Purvanchal power distribution companies will be privatized. State Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh said that the state government has taken a historic decision of immediate reforms for the welfare of consumers in Dakshinanchal and Purvanchal Discoms. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has a clear instruction that quality and uninterrupted electricity supply should be provided to all types of consumers. For this, whatever necessary reforms are required should be done.
During discussions with prominent personalities and partner organizations of the sector regarding various aspects of reforms and privatization in the power distribution sector, the Chief Secretary said that reforms in the power sector are the need of the hour. The state government has taken a historic decision to carry out immediate reforms, especially in Dakshinanchal and Purvanchal discoms.
The Chief Secretary said that to improve the electricity system, we will have to take tough and responsible decisions. There are a large number of rural domestic consumers in the state. Agriculture is done on 75 percent of the land in the state. Electricity has great importance in this. Similarly, uninterrupted power supply is very important for industrial development in rural areas of the state. Industries established in all areas, especially rural areas, should get uninterrupted electricity., For this, it is necessary that the private sector be made a partner in distribution. Agricultural sector should get good irrigation facilities, lifestyle of people, To increase agricultural income and establish industries in rural areas, work is being done to reform Dakshinanchal and Purvanchal Discoms and to involve the private sector. consumer in this, The interests of industries and personnel will be taken full care of.
On the ongoing protests regarding electricity privatization, he said that if any reform takes place, initially people oppose it., But they like it when it improves their lives. Giving the example of Greater Noida, he said that now people want to take NPCL connection. Privatization has improved supply, Line losses have reduced.
Principal Secretary Energy Narendra Bhushan said that Delhi, Orissa, Reforms and privatization have been done to strengthen the power system in many parts of the country including Chandigarh, which has been very successful. UPPCL Chairman Dr Ashish Goyal said that the state government has improved the infrastructure on a large scale. There is an urgent need for reforms in discoms like Dakshinanchal and Purvanchal. The Chairman said that both the Discoms were far behind compared to others.
