BNP Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam Khan called for unity to defeat fascism. He said, 'Fascism cannot be defeated without a united effort. We have a responsibility to restore democracy in the country. The blood of those who gave their lives for democracy cannot be messed with.'
He said these things at a discussion meeting at the National Press Club in the capital today. On the occasion of the 43rd founding anniversary, Bangladesh Khilafat Movement organized this meeting titled 'What we should do against fascism and its minions'.
Pointing to ISKCON, Nazrul Islam Khan said, 'They did not protest against the torture and oppression they have done for so many years. After the fall of Sheikh Hasina, why should this movement be done as soon as the new government came? They requested the government of India to take action as people of this country. Bangladesh under no one will take that action? And they (India) also make a statement. I did not see any statement about the fact that thousands of people were killed in July-August. There is no statement that the advocate was killed. If you arrest one person, you will give a statement, but if you kill thousands of people, you will not give a statement, it is biased.'
Addressing the interim government to restore democracy, Nazrul Islam Khan said, 'Our main responsibility in restoring democracy is to arrange fair elections. The previous government forcibly seized power and staged a farce in the name of elections. It is the duty of an interim government to hold fair elections, in which the views of the people are accurately reflected.'
The discussion meeting was presided over by Senior Nayeb Amir Alhaj Mohammad Azam Khan of Bangladesh Khilafat Movement. At that time, the organization's central joint secretary general Mufti Enayet Ullah Hafezzi, general secretary Mufti Fakhrul Islam and many others were present.
