Jatiya Nagrik Party (NCP) convener Nahid Islam has accused the Election Commission (EC) of taking a stand against the Election Commission (EC) even though the interim government has decided to campaign for the ‘yes’ vote in the referendum. He said that the Election Commission has taken a stand against the referendum campaign. In such a situation it is not possible to organize an impartial election.
He made this complaint during the press briefing after the meeting with the chief advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus on Monday night.
Stating that the responsibility of biased elections will fall on the interim government, Nahid Islam said, ‘We are not seeing the neutral behavior required for fair elections. Biased behavior of the EC will affect the election. If there is such an election, the responsibility will fall on the interim government.
Referring to the issue of dual citizens and defaulters, Nahid said, ‘EC has given legitimacy to dual citizens and defaulters under the pressure of BNP without taking action against them. Dual citizens and debtors do not matter; So that the application of the law is fair. We want a fair election. Urge the EC not to bow down to any party or power.’
The convener of NCP said that the EC is under the pressure of a party, “The EC has been questioned with its legitimacy by withdrawing from the position of the law under the pressure of a party.” There is also an attempt to block the legal battle. Our complaints were not taken into account and instead I was given grief.’
Nahid said by warning to go to the field, “The question has been raised whether it is Tariq Rahman’s plan to put pressure on the EC as a constitutional institution or not.” If the EC continues to behave like this, we will be forced to enter the field.’
Chairman of the party’s central election management committee Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, secretary Monira Sharmin and head of the legal support sub-committee Zahirul Islam Musa were also present at this time.
