Lenovo Thinkbook Plus Gen 6: Rollable display laptop in the market

After several years of efforts, Lenovo brought the world's first rollable display laptop 'Thinkbook Plus Gen 6'. The specialty of this laptop is that its display can be scaled according to need.

The laptop was unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), a technology conference in Las Vegas, which began on January 7.

Lenovo first revealed the concept of the laptop two years ago. However, in 2025 it reached the stage of commercial production. It will have the processor – Intel Core Ultra 200V series (Maximum Core Ultra 7). Apart from this, the laptop will have 32GB LPDDR5x dual channel RAM and 1TB PCIe 4.0 SSD storage. This laptop will also include Intel XE2 graphics. As a result, graphic designers can work very well with this laptop. Especially those who work with portrait documents.

However, the main attraction of the laptop is its rollable display. This laptop will work well for those who need a vertical display. For example: software engineers or business people who work with a lot of documents, the ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 rollable model will be the ideal device.

The screen extends upward with a user gesture or button press. The display moves up and down with the help of motors in the display hinge (the tool used to hold two objects together).

This laptop basically has a 14-inch display with a resolution of 2000 x 1600 pixels. However, with the rollable display feature, it can expand the screen to 16.7 inches in just 10 seconds, with a new resolution of 2000 x 2350 pixels.

However, the laptop's motors are quite noisy, which can easily attract attention in a quiet environment.

The extended screen of the Lenovo Thinkbook Plus Gen 6 rollable laptop is quite large. Two 16:9 aspect ratio window displays can be stacked on top of each other. That is, it will be easier in multitasking. Because two windows will appear on this display at the same time. When the screen is shortened as needed, the lower part of the display slides into the laptop chassis and the keyboard comes under the deck.

According to technology website The Verge, the screen's motor and mechanism have been tested to open and close at least 30,000 times. In addition, the screen is tested to roll up and down at least 20,000 times.

The laptop's screen is a Samsung Display IT foldable panel, with small folds on the bottom half.

It only has two Thunderbolt 4 ports and a 3.5mm headphone jack. So a separate dongle must be used for the USB or card reader.

The laptop has only the power button on the right side and no HDMI out. Note that HDMI out is a port, which is used to output video and audio signals from the device. Through this port the laptop or device can be connected to other display devices like television, monitor or projector.

The laptop features dual mic array with WiFi-7 and Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity, 2 x 2W Harman/Kardon speakers and a 5-megapixel IR webcam, making this laptop a workstation. Especially for professional users.

Also, while there are many dual-screen laptops on the market, they usually require additional accessories such as wireless keyboards and foldable stands. However, in the case of the ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 rollable laptop, everything is available in one complete unit. That is, users do not need to carry additional materials.

The laptop will hit the market in the first quarter of this year, the price of which will be 3 thousand 499 dollars.
