A Taliban refugee minister was killed in an explosion in Kabul

Afghan Taliban government refugee minister Khalilur Rahman Haqqani and six others were killed in a powerful explosion in Kabul. This information was given by his nephew Anas Haqqani. Anas Haqqani expressed grief over this incident on Wednesday and said, 'We have lost a brave mujahid. We will never forget him and his sacrifice.' British news agency Reuters reported this news.

Khalil Haqqani became the minister of the Taliban's interim government after foreign troops left Afghanistan in 2021. He was a top leader of the Haqqani network. According to the US State Department, the group is responsible for major attacks during the 20-year war.

It is not yet clear who is behind the explosion.

After the Taliban seized power in Afghanistan in 2021, they promised to restore security to the country. But a spate of attacks in urban areas has raised questions about the implementation of that promise. In 2022, four people were killed in an explosion near the Interior Ministry led by Haqqani Network leader Sirajuddin Haqqani. In 2023, the Islamic State (IS) launched an attack in front of the Taliban-run Foreign Ministry, killing at least five people.

In 2011, the US Treasury Department listed Khalil Haqqani as a 'Specially Designated Global Terrorist'. The US State Department announced a $500,000 reward for information leading to his discovery.
