Pro-India Canadian MP Chandra Arya faces threat from Khalistanis, Trudeau government increases security

Chandra Arya, a member of the House of Commons of Canada, has been given federal security cover due to threat to his life from Khalistanis. Arya already enjoys parliamentary protection but this step was taken in view of the increasing protests by Khalistanis against him. Arya is known for his pro-India and anti-Khalistani statements, hence he is being targeted by Khalistani groups. In fact, on October 6, pro-Khalistan elements had protested during Arya's program in Alberta's capital Edmonton. In another program also, Khalistani separatist group SFJ had tried to target Arya, although Arya could not be a part of that program.

Opening a front of protest against Arya, Sikh for Justice leader terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannu had accused Arya of working with the Indian government. She said that it seems that MP Arya has no first-hand experience of what Khalistan extremism is and can be. We will make them experience this. When Arya's program was going on in Edmonton, Khalistani terrorist elements were raising slogans against him. He was continuously calling upon Arya to go back to India.

On October 11, in the Canadian Parliament, Arya held a mirror up to Khalistanis, criticizing attacks on journalists reporting on Khalistani extremism. In his address, he said that I want to tell the legal agencies that we have to take it with full seriousness, we have to deal with it with full strictness before it is too late.

Arya, an MP from the ruling Liberal Party, is known for his pro-India stance. He continues to raise his voice against Khalistani activities in the House of Commons and across Canada. He visited India in August this year and also met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Foreign Minister S Jaishankar.
