Several districts, including the capital of Bangladesh, Dhaka, have suddenly seen a high incidence of measles among children, although the health department says children are being affected by the disease across the country.

Discussions are intensifying as to why the disease is on the rise again after children aged 9 to 15 months are vaccinated against the disease as part of the country’s expanded immunization programme.

Doctors say many children are getting the disease even after vaccination, which is worrying. Because this disease caused by a highly contagious virus can also put the life of the affected child at risk.

However, this time the affected patients are being treated based on their symptoms and they are also saying that they are recovering.

Health Minister Sardar Sakhawat Hossain Bakul said in an event on Sunday that about 600 crore taka has been allocated for new vaccinations to deal with the situation.
