Prothom Alo main news— The definition of a freedom fighter has changed five times since independence. According to the news, the definition of a freedom fighter has changed five times in Bangladesh since independence.
The definition of a freedom fighter was last changed in June last year.
Discussions have started again on whether the definition of ‘heroic freedom fighter’ and ‘supporter of the liberation war’ will be retained by the interim government.
According to Jamuka’s latest list, the number of brave freedom fighters in the country is about 1 lakh 98 thousand.
In the new definition, who is a ‘valiant freedom fighter’ and who is an ‘assistant in the liberation struggle’, the entire list has to be verified.
After changing the definition of a freedom fighter, the interim government remained in power for another 9 months. But according to the new definition, the task of classification has not progressed much.
In the light of the new definition, the National Freedom Fighters Council (JAMUCA) has recommended 40 people to be ‘Liberation Struggle Associates’ in the last 9 months.
It is mentioned in the report that he spoke to three officials of the additional secretary level from the deputy secretary of the Ministry of Liberation War.
They said that classification according to the new definition is very complicated and time-consuming. Moreover, this definition is also disputed. In such a situation, they are waiting for the government’s decision whether the new definition will be upheld or not.
When asked to know the position of the government, Liberation War Affairs Minister Ahmed Azam Khan said, after knowing everything well, he will talk about these issues.
It should be noted that after independence, the definition of freedom fighter was determined on 7th August 1972 through the presidential order.
Then there was a big change in the definition of a freedom fighter in 2018, then in 2025. Besides, there was little change in 1980 and 2022.

According to this news, Abdul Alim (45) has been making a living through ride sharing in Dhaka for the past four years.
He stayed in Dhaka instead of going home to Jhenaidah hoping to earn more during the Eid holidays. But due to the oil crisis, Abdul Alim did not get the expected income.
He can take fuel after waiting for about 5 hours from 11 am in the morning at the trust filling station in Bijay Sarani of the capital on Wednesday.
Other drivers are in the same situation as Abdul Alim in collecting fuel.
The reporter of the daily visited at least 10 pumps in the capital from morning to evening, there is no oil anywhere, so the pumps are closed.
Certain amount of oil is being given somewhere. However, a couple of pumps were supplying oil on demand.

It has been decided to take action accordingly.
These decisions were taken in a special meeting on ‘What to do to deal with the fuel situation’ at the Prime Minister’s Office in the Cabinet Division of the Secretariat on Wednesday.
In a press briefing at the Secretariat today, Prime Minister’s Advisor Zaheed Ur Rahman said that some people may be trying to stockpile oil at the pump level, our government is thinking of looking at them.
