We do not behave unethically—Jamaat in response to allegations of Islamic movement

Assistant Secretary General of the party Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair commented that Jamaat-e-Islami does not behave ‘out of political etiquette’ with anyone. He made this comment in a statement sent to the media on Friday in view of the allegations made against Jamaat by Islami Andolan Bangladesh, another religious party.

Charmonai Pir’s party Islami Andolan held a press conference today to explain the reasons for withdrawing from the Jamaat-led alliance.

The party’s spokesperson Gazi Ataur Rahman said, ‘The sad reality is that Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Shafiqur Rahman has made it clear that if they come to power, they will run the state according to the existing laws. A representative of the Christian community he spoke to, a respected woman from the Christian community, clarified, “We have been assured that the emir of the Jamaat will not introduce Sharia law – this is what he has promised”.

Gazi Ataur Rahman said, ‘After knowing this, we became clear that the goal we are pursuing will not be achieved. Because, today when an environment has been created for the state to come to power, if those who are the main power go in a different direction from the noble ideals of Islam, if they do not have confidence in Islamic law, then the workers-supporters we are working for Islam across the country – this dream will remain a dream.

In the press conference, the Islamic movement announced that it would leave the Jamaat-led alliance and hold elections in 268 parliamentary seats.

Immediately after this came the response from Jamaat-e-Islami.

The leader of the party, Ehsanul Mahbub Jubair, said in a statement, ‘Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami always maintains political etiquette and behaves with all political parties on the basis of mutual respect and respect. We do not behave out of political etiquette with anyone.’

The statement said, ‘The statement given by Gazi Ataur Rahman, the joint secretary general and spokesperson of the organization, in the press conference organized by Islami Andolan Bangladesh on Friday afternoon, citing the responsible leader of an organization of the Christian community is not correct. In this regard, the matter has been clarified immediately during the press briefing from our side.

Jamaat’s assistant secretary also said, ‘Gazi Ataur Rahman’s comment that “Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has gone in a different direction from the law of Allah and Islamic ideals” is also not correct. We think that he made such comments with the intention of creating confusion in the public mind. Bangladesh Jamaat Islami is an Islamic organization guided by the ideals of Allah and His Messenger.
