Airtel questions the quality of Tejas Networks’ signal equipment

Telecom service provider Bharti Airtel on Tuesday alleged that the signal problems being faced by its network in Rajasthan are due to substandard equipment installed by Tejas Networks in BSNL’s 4G network.

The company also rejected the claim by Tata Group’s Tejas Networks that Airtel was responsible for the signal problem. Tejas Networks had said that Airtel had installed its towers very close to BSNL equipment and did not take into account the technical provisions. Due to this, there is a problem related to network signal in Rajasthan.

On this claim, an Airtel spokesperson said that it is normal to have equipment from multiple service providers installed on towers and this does not cause signal problems, the problem is only related to the quality of these equipment.

An email sent to Tejas Networks remained unanswered till the time of going to press. Airtel had raised the issue with the DoT’s Wireless Planning Panel (WPC) in March.

An industry source said the Commission has directed BSNL to install adequate ‘filters’ to prevent interference caused by overlap of 850 MHz and 900 MHz radio waves. Tejas had said in its letter that its equipment is fully compliant with the standards and has better ‘filtering’ capability.
