Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin said on Thursday that increasing the import duty by the US by 50 percent on Indian goods will have a serious impact on the state’s exports.
He said that only about ₹ 3,000 crore trade is expected to be affected in Tirupur’s textile industry due to the US fee and thousands of jobs are under threat.
The Chief Minister demanded the central government to immediately implement structural reforms for the safety of domestic industries and workers. Stalin wrote on the social media platform ‘X’, “Increasing the US fee on Indian goods will have a serious impact on Tamil Nadu’s exports. Especially on the textile field of Tirupur, which is expected to affect trade of about ₹ 3,000 crore and a crisis has arisen on thousands of jobs. ”The Chief Minister said that he has reiterated his demand for immediate relief and structural reforms to protect industries and workers from the central government.
