Arab FinanceEngineer Karim Badawy, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, participated in the activities of the Hamburg Sustainability Conference, which was held on October 7-8 under the title “Together we contribute to ensuring the achievement of sustainable development for all peoples” and organized by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, in cooperation with the United Nations Development Program and the Michael Foundation. The conference witnessed the participation of an elite group of heads of state, leaders, ministers, international and financial organizations, and experts specialized in fields related to achieving sustainability, in order to strengthen partnerships and collective work to remove the challenges that prevent the implementation of sustainable development goals, and to discuss topics related to future plans for how to achieve a safe energy transition while ensuring the availability of energy for all peoples. Especially in developing countries.

The conference began its activities with Olaf Schulz – Federal Chancellor of Germany, delivering the opening speech of the conference, which addressed the importance of the alliance of world leaders and governments, along with financial institutions and the private sector from all over the world, to overcome the current global challenges and accelerate efforts to achieve sustainable development goals and ensure sustainability and growth for all peoples. He announced the holding of the Hamburg Sustainability Conference on an annual basis in order to strengthen alliances with governments, the private sector, civil society and financial institutions to ensure sustainability.

During the opening, Engineer Karim Badawy met with a number of ministers, Mr. Pralhad Joshi, Minister of New Renewable Energy in India, Ms. Anna Bethe, Minister of International Development in Norway, and Achim Steiner, Director of the United Nations Development Programme. The Minister also attended some different sessions, the most important of which was a session entitled “Expanding the scope of… Impact: “Together for Transformation – Strengthening Multilateral Development Bank Cooperation,” which included Dr. Rania Al-Mashat – Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, alongside the President of the World Bank, the President of the Inter-American Development Bank, the CEO of the Climate Investment Funds, and the German Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development. The Minister focused on Egypt's role in cooperating with multilateral development banks to overcome global challenges and provide additional capital to achieve the goals of development projects.
