In the first Test match played in Multan, Babar Azam scored 30 runs in the first innings while only 5 runs came from his bat in the second innings. More than 100 runs were given away from Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah.

Pakistan had scored 556 runs in the first innings in Multan. In reply, England declared the innings at 823 runs for 7 wickets. After this, Pakistan's second innings was reduced to 220 runs. This happened for the first time in 147 years of Test history when a team scored more than 500 runs in the first innings and lost by an innings margin.
