US President Donald Trump announced the imposition of new 'receiprock tariffs' on several countries on Thursday morning (IST). He imposed a baseline tariff of 10% on all imports, while countries with which the US trade deficit is high, they were even higher tariffs. But Russia's name was not in this list, which raised many questions.
Why did Russia get exemption from tariff?
According to the AXIOS report, the White House press secretary Caroline Leevit clarified that Russia was excluded because it is already under US sanctions. He said, “Russia has already been so strict that there is no concrete business with them.” Apart from this, he also indicated that further stringent restrictions can be imposed on Russia.

Trade with Russia is still more than other countries
Despite Russia getting exemption from tariffs, trade between the US and Russia is still more than some small countries such as Mauritius and Brunei. The special thing is that Mauritius and Brunei were included in Trump's tariff list, but not Russia. This decision has surprised many experts and discussions have intensified.
