Tangra from Baghajatin, Calcutta. One house after another has collapsed. In this situation, after conducting a survey all over Kolkata, important information came to the building department of Kolkata Municipality. A total of 30 high-rises have collapsed in the city of Kolkata in the last few months. Major accidents can happen at any moment.
A new addition to the list of dilapidated houses is Jagatpur in Baguiati. Two buildings were seen leaning on each other in Jagatpur Netaji Palli of Baguihati Ward No. 23 of Bidhannagar Purnigam. It looks like a building is leaning on another building. As soon as the incident came to light, the councilor of Ward No. 23 Jhinuk Mandal filed a written complaint with the Bidhannagar Purnigam about the incident of two houses falling. Jhinuk Mandal claims that all these houses were not built during his tenure.
The councilor said, I am also suffering from insecurity. I will take strict action. No building is allowed without permission. But we cannot touch anyone's private house.
Former Trinamool Councilor Asha Nandi has denied all allegations. He claims that he knows nothing about this.
Local residents complain that these houses have been built on only a few acres of land by filling the pond. Within a few years they are falling on each other.
Meanwhile, after the survey, what is known in the report submitted to Kolkata Municipality? It is reported that 65 percent of these large number of leaning multi-storied buildings are illegal. Which are made without any design approval.
How so many houses were built overnight in the city of Kolkata? Not only that, illegal constructions have come up and even people have started living there. That is now the concern of the building department.
It is feared that the kind of disaster that happened in Baghazatin, if this incident happens at night in the case of the rest, then the loss of life is 100% sure. According to an information from the building department, the mayor has always claimed that around a hundred illegal constructions have been demolished in the last one year. But reality says otherwise. Not illegal construction, but in some cases it is being continued as construction with minor illegal parts demolished.
The Kolkata Municipality has not been able to provide the information on the number of illegal constructions in the city of Kolkata till date. But one after the other, the municipality reported the condition of the multi-storey buildings in the city by conducting a survey and using the borough-wise information.
Calcutta Mayor Firhad Hakim said, “I have received a report about the house falling.” There are about thirty houses. There are people there. We are looking into the matter.
In this context, State BJP Chief Spokesperson Shamik Bhattacharya's top, houses are being built illegally in several places including Dumdum, Panihati, Kamarhati on the outskirts of Kolkata. Where 5 storey houses should not be allowed, 8 storey houses are being built. Everything is done with money.
