New Delhi. Jasprit Bumrah is moving towards making a big record in the India-Australia Test series. Bumrah has taken 21 wickets in 3 matches so far in this series. If he takes 7 more wickets in the next two matches, he will become the pacer with the highest wicket taker in an edition of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Currently, this record in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy is in the name of Australian pacer Ben Hilfenhaus. He took 27 wickets in the series played in 2011-12.
India-Australia Test series is being played since 1947-48. In the year 1996 it was named Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Since then the Border-Gavaskar Trophy is given to the winner of the series. This trophy has been with India for the last 10 years. In this series played since 1996, Sachin Tendulkar (3,262) has scored the most runs while Nathan Lyon (116) has taken the most wickets.
Bhajji's record is also in danger
Although Nathan Lyon has the most wickets in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Similarly, the feat of taking the most wickets in one of its editions is recorded in the name of Harbhajan Singh. He took 32 wickets in three matches of the series played in 2001. This record has remained intact for 23 years. The threat to Harbhajan's record is not from any Australian bowler but from the Indian bowler only. If Jasprit Bumrah takes 12 more wickets, he will break Harbhajan Singh's record.
Will make a record as soon as he takes one wicket in MCG
Jasprit Bumrah has taken 15 wickets at the MCG Ground in Melbourne. Anil Kumble also has the same number of wickets in the MCG. As soon as Bumrah takes one wicket, he will leave Kumble behind and become the highest wicket-taker Indian bowler at MCG. Jasprit Bumrah is taking an average of 7 wickets in every test in this series. If Bumrah maintains this average then he can take his number of wickets to 35.
