BSEC summons two directors of DSE even knowing they are dead


Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) has summoned the two former directors of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) who died two years ago. Yesterday, Wednesday, Deputy Director of BSEC said. A show cause letter signed by Sultan Salah Uddin has been sent to DSE.

Those two deceased directors are Rakibur Rahman and Habibullah Bahar.

Former chairman of Shokje DSE. The 12 directors who participated in the board meeting held on June 28 and August 17, 2021 of the board led by Yunusur Rahman have been summoned. Among them are Rakibur Rahman who died on March 18, 2022 and Habibullah Bahar who died on August 9 of the same year.

An investigation report dated November 30, 2023, stated that there had been violations of the Securities Act regarding the collection and use of protection funds for investors. In this case, as the DSE authorities did not collect the funds properly, the investigation report also raised questions about its use. For this reason, BSEC has been summoned to give an explanation on December 23 at 10:30 am. Where the late 2 directors of DSE Rakibur Rahman and Habibullah Bahar are also named.

On the condition of anonymity, a director of DSE told Ajker newspaper, 'Everyone knows that Habibullah Bahar and Rakibur Rahman are dead. All media of the country have reported their death. BSEC has summoned them in this situation. How will the person who died appear in the hearing? BSEC has acted very unprofessionally and has shown incompetence with this summons.'

He further said, 'BSEC has summoned the previous board based on an inquiry report. In this case, the BSEC authorities have summoned the DSE investigation report. But first of all, it was necessary to review how accurate the report is.'

BSEC Executive Director and Spokesperson Mohammad Rezaul Karim told Ajker newspaper, 'We (BSEC) also know that they are dead. The letter has been given knowingly. This is done to follow the rules. There is nothing wrong with BSEC here. Their names will be omitted on the day of hearing.'
