Munni Sahar bank account in discussion

134 Crores of Tk has been deposited beyond the salary as the bank concerned with the interest of journalist Munni Sahar. Out of this, 120 crore rupees have been withdrawn at various times. Another Rs. 14 crores are under deferred status. Bangladesh Bank's search has revealed this information.

It is reported that Munni Saha, her husband Kabir Hossain Tapas and the MS Promotions owned by them received this money from the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU).

According to Central Bank information, an account was opened on May 2, 2017 in the name of MS Promotion owned by Munni Saha's husband Kabir Hossain at the private One Bank's Caravanbazar branch. Where Munni Sahar is named as the nominee. On the other hand, an account was opened in the name of Prime Traders on July 21, 2004 in the name of Prime Traders owned by one Mahfuzul Haque at the Khatunganj branch of the bank in Chittagong. A loan of Tk 51 crore 50 lakh was taken from the bank in the name of two institutions. The bank has repeatedly waived and renewed interest without repaying the loan. Out of this, only in 2017, 25 crore 78 lakhs of interest was waived. Although there is no mutual business relationship between the two organizations.

An example of September 29, 2019 has been mentioned, on that day, through three separate checks, Rs. 56 lakh 50 thousand were transferred from the account of MS Promotion to Prime Traders, which is suspicious. BFIU is investigating whether this money has been laundered.

According to the report of Bangladesh Bank, the current account was opened in the name of Prime Traders in the Khatunganj branch of One Bank on 21 July 2004. According to the documents, the company imports various products and supplies them to the local market. In view of the customer's application, on August 3, 2008, the bank granted a loan of Tk 26.5 million for a period of 90 days for the purchase of 11,500 tons of peas from the local market. However, due to non-payment of the loan on time, the term was extended twice. However, due to non-payment of the loan, in January 2011, it was restructured with interest waiver. The loan was then restructured for the second time in June 2012 and the third time in February 2017. 25 crores 78 lakhs of interest was waived during the third round of restructuring. In this case, the maturity and future interest are stopped for 12 years with a grace period of three months. As a result of Bangladesh Bank's objection, later the bank gave time to repay the loan in six installments of Tk 13 crore 74 lakh over 6 years. The customer paid installments till 2019 but did not pay again in 2020. Later, again in 2021, the loan of Tk 8.61 million was extended in 39 equal installments till August 2026.

The report also said that Munni Sahar's husband Kabir Hossain opened a current account of an advertising agency named MS Promotion on May 2, 2017 at the bank's Caravanbazar branch. Pursuant to his application, an overdraft (OD) loan of Rs 18 crore was granted on June 6 of that year. Due to the non-payment of the loan, the loan was renewed in the meeting of the bank's executive committee on January 27, 2019, in view of the customer's application. Later, in the meeting of the executive committee on November 24 of the same year, the OD loan limit was increased to Tk 25 crore along with renewal of the outstanding loan account. Last in 2022, the loan account was rescheduled to a 5-year term loan.

Incidentally, he was recently surrounded by locals when he came out of the 'Vision-2021 Tower' (formerly Janata Tower) of the ICT Department in Kawran Bazar of the capital. On receiving the information, the police came and rescued Munni Saha and took her to Tejgaon police station. At first, it was said that he would be arrested in a case, but he was handed over to the custody of his family on the condition of getting bail from the office of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) intelligence department, considering other aspects.
