Friday was Barcelona's 125th anniversary. They organized a grand event. Before celebrating this special day, the Catalan giants suffered another defeat. Their wait for a win in La Liga got longer. Las Palmas returned home with a win on Saturday. The Catalan giants are without a win for the third consecutive match in the league. Palmas beat Barca 2-1.
Palmas scored twice in the match but Barcelona's efforts were thwarted by their keeper Jasper Cillessen, who spent three years at Barcelona. His heroics saw the Catalans win the Copa del Rey trophy in 2017 and 2018, the club's fourth consecutive title. He played only five matches in La Liga from 2016 to 2019 in his Barca career.
The 35-year-old Cillessen stood against Barca this time, but was a big obstacle to all the great saves. He made seven saves. Palmas, on the other hand, took three shots on target and converted two.
In the 49th minute, Sandro Ramirez netted for his former club and put Palmas ahead. Rafinha scored in the 61st minute to bring Barca back into the match. However, six minutes later, Fabio Silva found the ball in the box after Javi Munoz's cross after arranging the pass.
Barca lost for the second time in three games, their third loss in the league this season. They are still at the top with 34 points in 15 matches. However, having played two matches less, their gap with Real Madrid (30) in second place was reduced to only four points.
