The Proteas took a lead of 281 runs by stopping the Lankans for 42 runs

3, 2, 0, 1, 13, 7, 0, 0, 0, 10, 0—This is the first innings run by the Sri Lankan batsmen in the Durban Test. A session away from the South African bowlers, the visitors managed to last 13.5 balls. The Lankans set a shameful record by being bowled out for just 42 runs. This is their lowest score in an innings in a Test.

Sri Lanka's new-ball batting line-up has been made a graveyard by Marco Jansen. He took 7 wickets with 13 runs off 41 balls. This is the best bowling by any South pacer in this century. And second best by a Protea against the Lankans after Keshav Maharaj (9/129).

This is the lowest score by any team against South Africa. And Kingsmead is also the lowest. The score could have been even smaller for the Lankans if it had not been for 6 extra runs. Today, the visitors stopped the Proteas' first innings at 191 runs and started batting. But lost all wickets before lunch.

South Africa started the second innings with a lead of 149 runs and passed the day with a lead of 281 runs. Scored 132 runs for 3 wickets. Prabat Jayasuriya took his 2 wickets. He became the fourth Sri Lankan spinner to take 100 Test wickets. It took him 17 Tests to reach this milestone, the second fastest to reach his 100th wicket.

The Proteas got through the first day with 80 runs for 4 wickets due to rain. Temba Bavuma (70) started the second day with 28 runs. He will start the third day with Tristan Stubbs (17) tomorrow with 24 runs.
