New Delhi. Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said that India cannot solve the problem of pollution without cutting fossil fuel imports. Addressing the Times Drive Green Conclave & Awards 2024 event, Gadkari said that biofuel economy is very important today and it is in good shape in India. He said that 40 percent air pollution in the country is caused by the transport sector.
Gadkari said, “Pollution is a matter of great concern in India… We cannot reduce pollution in the country without reducing the import of fossil fuels. In the transport sector, we need to find alternatives to fossil fuels… We need to develop sustainable development models.'' The Road Transport and Highways Minister also said that India is struggling in the agriculture sector due to surplus production of wheat, rice and sugar. I am facing problems. In this context, he said that the government has decided to diversify the energy sector of agriculture.
Today there are 400 projects in Punjab, Haryana and Maharashtra, where they are making bio-CNG from rice straw. The minister said that in most of the cases, Delhi is facing pollution due to burning of rice husk in Punjab and Haryana. Gadkari said that India is the fastest growing major economy in the world and Prime Minister Narendra Modi's mission is to make India a $5 trillion economy. Gadkari said that his dream is to make India's automobile industry number one in the world.
