The Ministry of Livestock has requested the Ministry of Commerce to stop the import of eggs

The Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock is not in favor of the opportunity given by the Ministry of Commerce to import eggs. Rather, they expressed concern over it. Because it will affect the farmers, which will have a long-term negative impact on the country's egg production. Also, importing eggs without obtaining a certificate from the competent authority can lead to the outbreak of various diseases, which can be risky and disastrous for the poultry industry.

Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhtar said this at a press conference organized on the 100th day of work of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock of the Interim Government at the Secretariat on Wednesday. He highlighted the various activities undertaken by his ministry to the journalists.

He said that the Ministry of Commerce is allowing the import of eggs. However, the Ministry of Commerce has been requested to cancel the decision to import eggs to sustain the marginal farmers, to prevent the outbreak of virulent Newcastle disease including avian influenza, infectious bronchitis or any new disease in the country.

He said that there was a shortage in the supply of eggs due to the flood in August-September. At the same time, due to the destruction of agricultural crops, the supply in the market was low. As a result, the demand for eggs was also higher than usual. Therefore, the price of eggs creates instability in the market. It's not there now.

A class of unscrupulous traders take this opportunity to interfere with the supply of eggs to make a profit. Consumer rights campaigned in this regard and tried to bring the prices under control. On the other hand, an initiative has been taken to sell eggs at a fair price by TCB and trucks. Arrangements are being made to bring eggs directly from the farm level to the market from the Animal Husbandry Department. The current cost of eggs can be further reduced if the cost of production especially feed, day olds and electricity can be reduced.

Farida Akhtar said, the Ministry has been instructed to take necessary measures to prevent disinformation against the Department of Livestock and the Livestock Sector by such fraudulent organizations and individuals who are not related to the poultry sector. Besides, efforts have been intensified to determine the rates of electricity bills and bank interest rates in poultry.

Farida Akhtar also said, “In the last 100 days, administrative reforms have been carried out in two directorates to make the work of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock effective. She said that the transfer, deprived and discriminated officials have been appointed and promoted.” This work is still ongoing. I hope that these changes will be helpful in increasing the dynamics of the activities of the department and improving efficiency.
