Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has taken a tough decision due to violence in the Meghna Bank Dhaka Third Division Cricket League. Dhaka Metropolis Cricket Committee (CCDM) banned 8 players and 1 team official for one year and fined them for violating the code of conduct.
On November 18, a Super League match between Tejgaon Cricket Academy and Sapphire Sporting Club was held at PKSP Ground 1 in the third division of the 2024-25 season. At the end of the match, there was a huge tension between the players of the two teams, which turned into a violent clash in the middle of the field. The incident shocked the spectators, umpires and field staff.
After reviewing the video footage of the incident and the statements of people present on the field, the technical committee of CCDM five players of Tejgaon Cricket Academy—Yasin Arafat, Md. Rifat Al Amman (Anik), Tasin Ahmed Ranbi, Md. Rabbi Hasan, Md. Parvez Ahmed Joy, team official Robin and three players of Sapphire Sporting Club—Md. Rana Khan, Saiful Islam Shaon and Md. Charges the heart.
According to clause 2.19 of the BCB Code of Conduct, any form of violent conduct in field play is considered a Level 4 offence. The maximum penalty for this offense is life imprisonment. However, the CCDM has taken a cautious step in determining the level of punishment.
The accused have been banned from all BCB competitions for one year. Besides, each has been fined 50 thousand rupees.
BCB president Farooq Ahmed said, 'BCB considers discipline in domestic cricket very seriously. No leniency will be shown in case of violation of such code of conduct. This is a strong message to all players and officials that indiscipline on or off the field is never acceptable.'
