The International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued an arrest warrant against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Warrants have been issued against Benjamin Netanyahu and the country's former defense minister, Yoav Galant, on charges of war crimes in Gaza. A similar warrant has been issued against Hamas leader Mohammad Daef (presumably killed). This information is known from the report of the British media The Guardian.
The arrest warrant will affect potential foreign trips for Netanyahu and Galante. Because, they can be arrested if they visit the countries that have signed the Roma Statute or the agreement regarding the establishment of the International Criminal Court. And Hamas leader Mohammed Dayef was probably killed in an Israeli strike. No detailed information is available about him.
The ICC's chief prosecutor Karim Khan applied for the arrest warrant last May. He said, “There is enough evidence against Netanyahu and Galant that they are criminally responsible for causing genocide in Gaza, which amounts to war crimes and crimes against humanity.”
The International Criminal Court said on Thursday that there is sufficient evidence against Daef of crimes against humanity and war crimes. This includes murder, torture, rape and kidnapping.
Meanwhile, the United States supports the ICC's war crimes warrant against Russian officials in Ukraine but opposes court action against Netanyahu and Gallant. As a result, the Biden administration has been accused of double standards.
Meanwhile, even if an arrest warrant is issued against the Israeli Prime Minister, it is considered that it will not be very effective. Some states have already ignored ICC warrants.
