CBI in Supreme Court: A hearing was held in the Supreme Court today i.e. on 21st November regarding CBI's challenge against the decision to produce Yasin Malik in Jammu court. The cases related to the murder of four Indian Air Force officers on the outskirts of Srinagar in 1990 and the kidnapping of Rubia Sayeed, daughter of the then Home Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed in 1989, are going on in the Jammu court. Yasin Malik is the main accused in both these cases. Regarding which Jammu Court has asked for the appearance of Yasin Malik.

Yasin Malik is lodged in Delhi's Tihar Jail.

Yasin Malik is currently serving life imprisonment in Delhi's Tihar Jail in the terror funding case. Yasin Malik was asked to appear in the court hearing in the year 2022 in the case of Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act. Malik had also agreed to appear.

What did CBI say on Malik's appearance?,

On the decision to produce Yasin Malik in Jammu court, CBI said that the production of Yasin Malik can create tension in the atmosphere of Jammu and Kashmir and it can prove to be a threat to Malik.

Before the bench of Justice AS Oka and Justice AG Masih in the Supreme Court, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, on behalf of CBI, said that 'We do not want to take Yasin Malik to Jammu and Kashmir'. On this, Justice Oka asked, 'So how will the process of cross-examination be completed through video conferencing?' The bench also pointed out the issue of internet speed in Jammu.

Hearing can be held in Delhi only – Solicitor General

Solicitor General said, 'Yasin Malik is playing a trick of appearing before the court in person. If Malik wishes to appear personally before the court, his hearing can be held in Delhi only. Tushar Mehta said that Yasin Malik is not an ordinary terrorist, on which Justice Oka said, 'Tell us how many witnesses are present in this hearing. In our country even Ajmal Kasab was given a fair trial.

Supreme Court bench agreed to hearing in jail

The Supreme Court bench again agreed to hear Yasin Malik in jail. The bench has asked the Center as to how many witnesses will appear in this case and asked them to make arrangements for security. The next hearing in this case will be held next Thursday (28 November).
