The portrait of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman has been removed from the Durbar Hall of Bangabhavan, the official residence of the President of Bangladesh. This was confirmed by Mahfuz Alam, who was recently sworn in as an adviser to the interim government. He shared this information in a post shared from his verified account on the social media Facebook on Monday.
Mahfuz Alam said in his post, “Post-71 fascist Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's picture has been removed from Durbar Hall. It is a shame for us that we could not remove his picture from Banga Bhavan after August 5. We apologize for this. But, as long as the spirit of July lives among people, he will not be seen anywhere else.'
The newly sworn-in adviser added, 'From the undemocratic constitution of Sheikh Mujib and his daughter 72, to famine, smuggling of billions of rupees and suppression of thousands of dissidents and extrajudicial killings of opponents (72-75, 2009-2024). Bangladesh Awami League must accept responsibility for what it has done to people and apologize.'
Mahfuz Alam also said, 'Then only we can talk about Sheikh Mujib before 71. There will be no settlement unless there is an apology and the prosecution of the fascists.'
Adviser Mahfuz Alam also shared a picture in his post. Asif Mahmood, another advisor of the interim government, gave the picture. In the picture, Mahfuz Alam is standing at a place in the Durbar Hall of Banga Bhavan and behind him is a wooden picture frame with a black background on a pillar on the wall. Earlier, Sheikh Mujib's picture was hung there.
Earlier, three more took oath as advisers to the interim government on Sunday evening. They are – Akiz-Bashir Group Managing Director Sheikh Bashiruddin, Filmmaker Mustafa Sarayer Farooqui and Special Assistant to the Principal Adviser Mahfuz Alam.
Later, various pictures of the oath ceremony were also spread on video media and social media. It can be seen there, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's picture is hung right behind the place where the advisers are taking oath in the Durbar Hall. After that, there was a lot of criticism on social media.
