Insight UK posted on social media that Diwali is not just a festive time, but has deep religious significance. Diwali is a festival of purity, hence non-veg food and alcohol should be avoided.

Lack of understanding and respect for religious traditions

Hindu organization Insight UK said PM Starmer's choice of menu at his Diwali celebrations shows a lack of understanding and respect for religious traditions. The organization raised questions about whether religious leaders were contacted before organizing the ceremony. Insight UK described this people's lack of understanding towards spirituality.

The organization suggested that more consideration should be given to the cultural and religious traditions of communities before organizing such events in the future. Religious writer Pandit Satish Sharma said on this matter that even if it happened by mistake, it is disappointing.

Leaders, professionals and parliamentarians from the British Indian community were invited to the event held on 29 October. During this, PM Starmer had lit lamps at the door of 10 Downing Street.
