The Awami League, ousted in a student uprising, said it was trying to create a linear narrative by seizing a disguised movement through conspiracy and unleashing an unprecedented anarchism through fascist-style mob terror to impose it on the entire nation.
This was said in a post given on the verified page of Awami League on Facebook on Saturday (November 9).
Condemning the attack on Bangladesh Group Theater Federation's protest meeting in front of Shilpakala Academy and the removal of pictures of national symbols from metro cards, Awami League said, “I call on the people who have confidence and progressive ideals in the spirit of the liberation war to unite and strongly protest against such heinous acts.”
It is said in the Facebook post that Awami League strongly condemned and protested against the attack on Bangladesh Group Theater Federation's protest meeting in front of Shilpakala Academy and the removal of pictures of national symbols from metro rail cards.
It is said that the current government is taking the entire Bangladesh towards fish justice. They are trying to suppress the freedom of thought and conscience of the people of the country with all their might. It is blocking the way of progress and good consideration for the society and the state. Their main aim has been to blur our past history, traditions and glory.
Awami League said, this undemocratic and unconstitutional government wants to declare its own legitimacy. They want to convey that they are not looking to the people for legitimacy. Rather, the people should be waiting for them to live their lives.
The party says that there is no safety of life and property of common people anywhere in the state and society. Unable to give relief to the people, this government is appearing in front of the people with agenda serials one after the other to hide their failure and trying to engage the national conscience. And where they see the possibility of forming an opinion against them, they are trying to suppress it either by mob-terror or by the use of force by the government. As part of this, plays were banned in Shilkala and yesterday there was a planned attack on the actors.
Awami League thinks that Shilpakala Academy plays a leading role in awakening the sense of superiority of the people of the country and artists are the pioneers of the development of free and progressive thinking in the society. Awami League is strongly condemning and protesting the domination of art through mob-terrorism and attacks on artists.
It is said in the Facebook post that Awami League has been saying since the beginning that this government is trying to destroy the values of Bangladesh's independence and the spirit of the liberation war. The liberation war of 1971 was a people's war. They want to erase people's participation from the history of Bangladesh. For this reason, it wants to create a new narrative against the Great War of Liberation and erase its memory.
It is also said that their sayings and actions at different times bear proof of that. As part of this, this illegitimate government has removed national history and heritage symbols from the metro rail card. Which is reprehensible and despicable at the same time. On behalf of the Awami League, we are calling on the people who are confident in the spirit of the liberation war and have progressive ideals to unitedly strongly protest against such heinous acts.
