Maharashtra Assembly Election 2024: Before the Maharashtra elections, Uddhav Thackeray has suffered a big setback. Bhiwandi contact chief and former MLA Rupesh Mhatre joined Shinde faction's Shiv Sena along with thousands of supporters last night. Along with Rupesh, some Shiv Sena-UBT officials have also joined Shinde faction. Rupesh Mhatre was angry at not being made a candidate from Bhiwandi. At the same time, due to anti-party rhetoric, Shiv Sena-UBT had expelled him.
Rupesh Mhatre joined Shiv Sena in the presence of CM Eknath Shinde. Giving information on 'X', CM Shinde wrote, “Rupesh Mhatre, former MLA of Bhiwandi East, along with many of his workers publicly joined Shiv Sena yesterday. We welcomed him into the party and wished him all the best for his social and political future.
Shiv Sena's fight becomes SP's fight in Bhiwandi East
Santosh Shetty has been given ticket from Shiv Sena on Bhiwandi East seat while Samajwadi Party has got this seat in the Indian alliance. Raees Sheikh of SP is the candidate from here. Rupesh Mhatre had won the 2010 by-election and 2014 assembly election from Bhiwandi East seat on the ticket of undivided Shiv Sena. In 2019, Raees Shaikh won and the seat went to SP. Santosh Shetty, whom Shiv Sena has made its candidate, was earlier in BJP. He was defeated by Rupesh Mhatre in 2014.
Uddhav had thrown them out along with Rupesh.
Let us tell you that many rebels of Shiv Sena-UBT had also filed nominations. However, Uddhav Thackeray was successful in convincing some of them and they withdrew their nomination. Whereas when the five rebel leaders did not listen, they were shown the way out. Apart from Rupesh Mhatre, the leaders who were expelled by the Uddhav faction include Vishwas Nandekar, Chandrakant Ghugul, Sanjay Awari and Prasad Thackeray.
