BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, while explaining the reason for repeatedly talking about elections, said, 'I am talking about elections again and again. Many people have asked, why talk so much about the election? Because I am a fundamental believer in democracy. I believe that no reform can ever succeed without people's participation.'
He said these things at the Bangladesh Youth Parliament function in the auditorium of the Supreme Court Lawyers Association on Saturday afternoon. National Youth Forum organizes this event.
Fakhrul said that active participation of the people is possible through an elected parliament. If it can be implemented, then it is possible to bring the whole thing into democratic practice.
BNP Secretary General said, 'The interim government will remove the mess created by the Awami League and arrange a fair and free election. So that through elections, we can create the new Bangladesh that the youth want, the youth want.'
He also commented on the occasion that fascism is trying to reassert itself due to various types of negative speech. Urging not to spread such talk, Fakhrul said, 'fascism has started to rise due to various negative talks. In various places and unfortunately some of our media are promoting it. Which I think, they will never bring anything good to the people.'
This leader of BNP also urged to deal with the existing crisis with tolerance. He said, 'The only way to overcome the crisis that is in front of us is to patiently do our work, reform and election. We have to do those things so that we can execute them properly.'
Taking a stance in favor of giving time to the interim government, Fakhrul said, 'This government must give time. We gave them responsibility, they are working. They have done a lot of work during these three months. There is no way to deny it. They have formed commissions to reform, change laws, work on laws. A number of fascists have been arrested, and are being prosecuted.'
Addressing the youth, he said, 'I would especially say to the youth, I would request that you have to be a little patient. We believe that those who are leading this government have students in it, youth in it. I believe they will surely reach that place. One thing we have to remember is that the opportunity that has been created this time should not be missed in any way. If this opportunity is lost, our existence as a nation will be endangered. I want to emphasize this.'
National Youth Forum President Aminul Islam Munir conducted the event, Chief Coordinator of Mass Solidarity Movement Jonaid Saki, National Democratic Movement Chairman Bobby Hajjaz, Supreme Court Lawyers Association Leader Mahbub Uddin Khokon and many others spoke.
Financial assistance was given to the families of Hafez Mohammad Imran, who was killed in the July-August student-public agitation, and Hafez Tofail Ahmed, who was injured, on this occasion.
