The FBI has foiled an Iranian plot to kill Donald Trump before the presidential election. This was disclosed by the US Justice Department on Friday. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has charged Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) associates Farhad Shakeri, 51, Carlisle Rivera, 49, and Jonathan Loadholt, 36.
The criminal complaint filed in federal court in Manhattan said an officer in Iran's paramilitary Revolutionary Guard in September instructed a hired killer, Farzad Shakeri, to keep an eye on Trump and kill him as soon as he got the chance. For this he was offered 5 lakh dollars. The complaint states that the officer also told Shakeri that if he could not do so, he should wait until the presidential election, because the officer believed that Trump would lose the election and then it would be easy to assassinate him.
Instructions were to carry out the murder conspiracy within seven days.
Shakeri told the FBI during interrogation that a Revolutionary Guard officer had asked him to carry out the assassination plot within seven days, but he was unable to carry out the plot. The US Justice Department said that an Iranian and Two American citizens were involved. Both American citizens were arrested on Thursday in Brooklyn and Staten Island in New York.
“There are few actors in the world that pose as serious a threat to the national security of the United States as Iran does,” US Attorney General Merrick Garland said in a statement.
Iranian conspiracy to kill Trump came to light in September
In September, US intelligence officials reported a suspected Iranian plot to assassinate Trump. It is believed that the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) briefing focused on a plan related to two failed domestic assassination attempts against the then-Republican presidential candidate. It came amid reports that Iran was carrying out an ongoing hacking campaign against the Trump campaign.
Firing took place during Trump's rally on July 13
Let us tell you that on July 13, there was firing on Trump during an election rally in Butler city of Pennsylvania, in which a bullet went through his ear. About 64 days after this incident, once again an attempt was made to attack him. At that time Trump was present at the International Golf Club of Palm Beach County in Florida.
