People will turn away if they go the way of Chhatra League: Rizvi

Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Senior Joint Secretary General of BNP has urged to learn from the fate of the ousted Awami League's student organization Chhatra League. He said, 'We who are democracy lovers, who want democracy in the country, will not attack anyone like Chhatra League or grab anything from anyone. This is our commitment. If we go that way, the people will not leave us. People will turn away.'

He said these things while distributing pamphlets on dengue awareness in Tejgaon of the capital on Saturday afternoon.

Rizvi said, 'We got democracy with the blood of those who fought for democracy and gave their lives. Work must be done to protect that democracy.'

Addressing the leaders and workers of the party, he said, 'Many were friends of fascism. They also looted, disappeared and killed BNP leaders and workers. They should also be brought to justice. But don't take the law into your own hands. If you see a criminal, report him to the police. Similarly, those who are innocent Awami League, who do small business, work, have not harmed anyone, should not be harmed. They should not be oppressed.'

Rizvi said, 'Those who are criminals, they will be judged. But the court will judge. It is the responsibility of the police to arrest them. We will not go down that line. We will not attack any political party's office or anyone's house. People should feel safe seeing us.'

BNP Health Secretary Dr. Rafiqul Islam, former president of Dhaka Metropolitan North Saiful Alam Nirab, Dr. Jahidul Kabir, Youth Dal leader Mehbub Masum Shanto, Dr. Leaders and activists including Touhidul Islam Awal were present at this time.
