The interim government should be clear about what reforms in the state structure it wants and how long it will take to do it, without any gimmicks. At the same time, Mirza Abbas, a member of the BNP's standing committee, called for the election date to be announced immediately.
Mirza Abbas said these things in the speech of the chief guest at the discussion meeting on 'Spirit of Liberation War and Today's Bangladesh' at Dhaka Reporters Unity at Segun Bagicha in the capital on Tuesday (November 5). On the occasion of the 21st death anniversary of the brave freedom fighter Mesbah Uddin Ahmed Sabu, this discussion meeting was held in the joint initiative of Generation of Liberation War and Generation Academy.
Mirza Abbas warned that you will do whatever you want by keeping the nation in the dark, we cannot accept that. So, don't leave the nation in a haze. The people of the country did not accept the government led by Awami League for the last 16 years without voting, now they will not accept this government for a long time.
Mirza Abbas also said that today the situation in the country is confused. It's going to get bleaker ahead. We want to believe that this government will definitely show a light of hope to the nation. But don't do anything that makes the nation lose faith in you.
Addressing the interim government, he said, currently we do not see any signs of reform. You are not talking about the election. When we talk about elections, you say that we are eager to come to power. Now if we say, you are crazy to stay in power without talking about elections. So, don't do any tricks. Put the nation in a fog, they will see the joke, it won't happen.
This policy maker of BNP said, who are you to amend the constitution? Amend the constitution without Parliament? It should be remembered that the constitution is not a rough book that you can do whatever you want. If the constitution is to be amended or rewritten, it should be done in consultation with those who have fought for independence, who are the stakeholders.
Referring to the popular uprising of the students as the second freedom, Mirza Abbas said, today this second freedom is being talked about loudly. What is the second freedom? Who invented this word? Which group discovered why did We are free from dictatorship, free from fascists. What do you mean by the second freedom? To me the explanation is – do you want to deny the declaration of independence of martyred president Ziaur Rahman and the great war of liberation? It should be remembered that if the son walks before the father, that country and nation will end.
He said that the interim government has been formed for three months. But still our cases including acting chairman of BNP Tariq Rahman have not been withdrawn. But you can issue an ordinance and withdraw all the cases against BNP and opposition party leaders from 2007 till the fall of the Awami League government. But not doing that. May or may not.
