51% increase in Center's capital spending – 51 increase in Capital Expenditure of the Center


The capital expenditure of the central government has increased by more than 51 per cent on an annual basis in January 2025. According to the data of the Accounts of Accounts, the increase in it is mainly due to the expenditure on railways, transfer to states and capital outlay on defense services.

The capital expenditure of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways decreased by 63 per cent in January as compared to this month of last year. The Ministry has completed 87 percent of the total capital expenditure of the budget in the period from April to January of FY 25 and it is equal to the level of FY 24.

Railways, the department, which spent other major capital expenditure in the country spent 11 percent more in January 2025 than in January 2024. The Ministry of Railways has used 83 per cent of the amount allocated in the budget during the April-January period of FY 25, while in this period of FY 24, 84 per cent was spent.

The transfer of funds to states was 87 percent higher in January 2025 than in January 2024. Overall capital expenditure was promoted due to excess transfer to the states. The Center spent 89 per cent of the fund allocated for capital expenditure in the transfer of states in the period from April to April to January, while 67 per cent was spent in this period of FY 24. Deloite India economist Rumki Majumdar said, 'Capital expenditure was more in December and January. The Center has spent about 75 percent of the target in 10 months. It has increased by 52 percent to 75 percent in the last two months. If expenses are promoted in backward areas, they can achieve the target in the next two months.
