31 crore stadium renovation before BPL


The Ministry of Youth and Sports has announced the renovation of the field ahead of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). Mirpur Sherebangla, Chittagong's Zahoor Ahmed Chowdhury and Sylhet International Cricket Stadium will be redecorated under this project at the cost of Tk 30.52 million allocated by this ministry.

A long period of mismanagement and overuse of the infrastructure has necessitated urgent renovations in various parts of the Shere Bangla Stadium; Especially the ground, spectator seating, gallery, toilets and security system are often discussed and criticized. A huge renovation project is starting ahead of the BPL, which will begin on December 30. The ministry has spent 30.52 million taka on this reform.

The project is supervised by the Bangladesh Army's Engineering Force. They are working in coordination with National Sports Council and BCB. Work has already started with the aim of completing the renovation work of BPL well before mid-December. Mirpur Stadium is being upgraded with modern facilities to ensure a more comfortable environment for the spectators, including toilets and spectator seats. BCB has already installed new chairs worth around Rs 3 crore in the gallery. New comfortable chairs are being added for VIPs and general visitors. To improve security, new security lights will be installed at each gate and corridor of the stadium. Development of electrical infrastructure including new cabling for uninterrupted supply of electricity is underway. Electronic scoreboard and giant screen will be installed in Mirpur's East Gallery. Development of parking and corporate box, parking area, corporate box, corporate lounge and more modern facilities for guests will be added. The quality of other entrances including security gates is being improved.

Development activities of Chittagong and Sylhet stadiums, new canopy and profile sheet will be installed on roof of gallery, media building and president box at Zahoor Ahmed Chowdhury stadium in Chittagong. Players dressing rooms, corporate lounges are being equipped with modern furniture, air conditioning and other amenities. The gallery and visitors' toilets will also be improved. MA Aziz Stadium in Chittagong will undergo some renovations to make it usable.

Sylhet stadium is undergoing development of media center, floodlights and electrical equipment to ensure better lighting for night games. Meanwhile, Asif Mahmood Sajib Bhuiyan, Adviser on Youth and Sports to the Interim Government has visited these venues several times to provide necessary guidance.

Shafiqul Islam, director of the project, told Ajkar newspaper yesterday, 'The importance of this renovation project on the occasion of BPL is immense to raise the cricket of Bangladesh to international standards. Hopefully, this development will improve the audience experience.'
