University of Asia Pacific announces indefinite closure

The University of Asia Pacific (UAP) authorities have announced the suspension of classes for an indefinite period after two teachers were expelled in the face of student protests for posting on Facebook about female students wearing the niqab.

This information was given in an urgent notice signed by the acting registrar of the university on Monday (January 19) night. The same message was sent to the students by mail.

According to the notification, the University of Asia Pacific (UAP) informs all concerned that the current situation is not conducive for the continuation of regular academic activities. University authorities are actively discussing with the concerned stakeholders to resolve the matter and resume normal operations as soon as possible.

“In view of the current situation, all classes at the University of Asia Pacific have been suspended until further notice,” the notice added.

Earlier on Sunday (January 18) two teachers were expelled in an emergency notice signed by the registrar of the university. They are Basic Science and Humanities Department Assistant Professor Layka Bashir and the same Department Associate Professor Dr. ASM Mohsin.
