Violent agitation against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over the RG tax scandal has had no impact on the state's six assembly by-elections. Mamata's Trinamool won a landslide victory in six seats.
There was a lot of curiosity about whether the Madarihat seat would retain Padma Shibir or not. After the announcement of the results, it was seen that the Trinamool did not just win, but for the first time in its history, Trinamool's twin flowers bloomed in the Madarihat assembly seat of Alipurduar.
The results of the polls showed a disorganized state of the BJP in Madarihat as well as in the remaining five constituencies. Also, once again the results of the polls proved that the Left-Congress is now a marginal force in West Bengal. Their existence was not found in any seat of village or town.
Left-backed ISF candidate Piyarul Islam came second in Haroa seat alone. There is a guarantee in this one seat. In the remaining five constituencies, the left wing candidates secured their bail. Congress secured all six seats by fighting separately.
The Left was the most involved in the civic movement against the RG tax. But it was seen that in these two constituencies, the leftists have secured bail. That is, they could not collect any benefits of the movement in the EVMs. BJP has also attacked Trinamool over RG tax. Padmashibir continued the movement separately even though he could not join the civic movement. Opposition leader Subhendu Adhikari chanted, 'Dafa one demand one, Mamata's resignation.' But nothing happened.
Top leaders of the Left and BJP agreed in private discussions that Trinamool's mass base in electoral politics is deeply rooted. Along with the organization, the economic ecosystem has been created by the grassroots.
A senior CPM leader said, 'In addition to various government allowances, many people in every area are struggling to stay with the Trinamool. Not all of them are corrupt. But for them, Trinamool is their bread and butter. This part is giving additional benefits to Trinamool. BJP leaders also accept the impact of social allowance on every vote.
Trinamool leader Kunal Ghosh said, 'Those who blaspheme about Lakshmi Bhandar should bow down to Lakshmi Bhandar. Just copying Mamata Banerjee will not do. Be more careful towards Maa Lakshmi. They will take Bengal forward.'
