Punjab By-Election 2024: The Punjab unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday wrote a letter to the Election Commission demanding registration of an FIR against state Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Wadding for alleged violation of the Model Code of Conduct. In a letter sent to the Chief Election Commissioner, Punjab BJP alleged that Wadding held a meeting at a mosque in Gidderbaha on Sunday and requested the people attending it to vote in favor of his wife Amrita. Amrita is the Congress candidate for the by-election on Giddarbaha assembly seat.
Demand to register case against leaders
Punjab BJP office secretary Sunil Dutt Bhardwaj claimed that Wadding has also posted pictures of the meeting on his Facebook account, which is a clear violation of the model code of conduct. The letter said, 'Therefore, it is requested that strict action should be taken in the matter under various sections of the Religious Institutions (Prevention of Misuse) Act, 1988 and other laws and along with the Congress's warning to the Senior Superintendent of Police of Muktsar Sahib, the said It should be recommended to register an FIR against other leaders involved in the crime.
Giddarbaha seat became vacant after Vandig was elected MP.
Gidderbaha seat had become vacant after Congress MLA Raja Vading was elected MP from Ludhiana Lok Sabha constituency. Apart from Gidderbaha in Punjab, voting for by-elections on Dera Baba Nanak, Chabbewal and Barnala seats will be held on November 20, while the votes will be counted on November 23.
