Madras High Court will hear on Thursday (June 4, 2026) the petition in which in 2022 AIADMK Permission has been sought to withdraw the case filed against the expulsion of many senior leaders from the party. This matter is before Justice N. Listed for hearing in Kumaresh Babu’s court. The court could not consider this request due to procedural delays on Wednesday.
This dispute is related to the leadership struggle within the AIADMK that started in 2022, when the party was divided into two factions. One group was led by Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) and others led by O. Panneerselvam (OPS) was doing. Amidst this ongoing tussle within the party, an important General Council meeting of AIADMK was organized on 11 July 2022.
Before the meeting O. Panneerselvam had filed a petition in the Madras High Court demanding a ban on this meeting. However, the court refused to impose an interim stay, after which the meeting took place as per schedule.
Many resolutions were passed in the General Council meeting, which made major changes in the leadership system of the party. Under one of the major proposals, O. Panneerselvam, Manoj Pandian, J.C.D. Prabhakar and Vaithilingam were expelled from the party. After this, these four leaders had approached the Madras High Court challenging their expulsion. Since then this case is pending along with other cases related to AIADMK leadership dispute.

Subsequent political developments changed the circumstances of this case. J.C.D. Prabhakar later joined Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) and was made the speaker there. Whereas O. Panneerselvam and some of his associates later joined Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK). In view of these changed circumstances, J.C.D. Prabhakar and other petitioners have recently written a letter to the High Court seeking permission to withdraw the case.
During the hearing on Wednesday, Justice Kumaresh Babu was told that the letter regarding withdrawal of the petition has not reached the court from the High Court Registry. For this reason the court could not take any decision on this request. Considering the situation, the judge adjourned the hearing of the case till Thursday and directed to list it again. It is now expected that the Madras High Court will consider the request of the petitioners to withdraw the case and issue appropriate orders.
