New Delhi. Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari expressed confidence that India's automotive industry will become number one globally in the next five years. He also underlined his ministry's ambitious target of reducing logistics costs in India to nine per cent in two years. At the 'Amazon Sambhav Summit', the Road Transport and Highways Minister highlighted the remarkable growth of India's automotive industry which has grown from Rs 7 lakh crore to Rs 22 lakh crore since he took charge.

He said, “America is in first place with Rs 78 lakh crore. After this, China's automotive industry is at second place with Rs 47 lakh crore. Now the size of India has increased to Rs 22 lakh crore. We want to make the Indian automotive industry number one in the world within five years.'' The minister said the presence of prestigious global automotive brands in India is a clear indication of the country's potential. He said his ministry aims to reduce logistics costs in India to single digits within two years.

Gadkari said, “Logistic cost in India is 16 percent and in China it is eight percent. In America and European countries it is 12 percent. The government has set a target of reducing the logistics cost… In my ministry, our target is that within two years we will take this logistics cost to nine percent.'' He also stressed on the importance of adopting alternative fuels and biofuels. Emphasized and said that using bio-ethanol in vehicles can lead to significant savings in fuel costs and will also reduce pollution. Gadkari also outlined a plan to convert organic waste into hydrogen fuel and other valuable materials through advanced recycling technologies.
