Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday (March 17) launched a dedicated mobile application for the Prime Minister Internship Scheme. Sitharaman has urged more companies to join the program.
Apart from this, Sitharaman has also appealed to MPs to encourage the youth to join the scheme. The pilot project of the scheme, with a target of providing 1.25 lakh internship opportunities to the youth during 2024-25, started on 3 October 2024.
The scheme aims to bring youth from Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities
After launching the PM internship app, Sitharaman said that the scheme is to bring youth from Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities and to help them understand the availability of jobs along with the skills required for the industry.
Indian industry should participate in a large scale plan
The minister said that according to the expectation and requirements of the industry, there is a shortage of people and the purpose of this scheme is to reduce that difference. Regarding the plan, Sitharaman said that there is no pressure on the industry and no intervention. This scheme is for national interest. The Indian industry should participate on a large scale.

The website and app of the plan are being made more accessible
The Sitharaman Minister said, 'You need to open the window … so that people can look at it. The website and app of the scheme are being made more accessible. It is available in many languages. ' Harsh Malhotra, Minister of State for Corporate Affairs, said that the scheme provides ground experience to the youth. This will help in contributing to developed India.
More than 1.27 lakh internships were given in the first round
In the first round of the scheme's pilot project, companies provided more than 1.27 lakh internship opportunities. At the same time, the second round of this scheme started in January this year, under which about 327 companies have posted more than 1.18 lakh internship opportunities. The last date for application in the second round is 31 March. The last date for first registration was 12 March.
Intern will get Rs 5,000 per month under the scheme
Under this scheme, the intern will be given a financial assistance of Rs 5,000 per month for 12 months and a one-time grant of Rs 6,000 i.e. a lump sum grant. The scheme announced in the Union Budget of 2024-25 is to provide internship opportunities to 1 crore youth in top-500 companies in five years.
The Ministry of Corporate Affairs implementing the scheme has identified the top-500 companies in the last three years based on their average CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) Expenditure.
Corporate Affairs Secretary Deepti Gaur Mukherjee said that apart from the top-500 companies, more companies are expected to join the scheme. The Ministry has also introduced an outline to assess the implementation of the pilot project.

Educational qualification
- High School or Higher Secondary School Pass
- ITI Certificate holder
- Diploma of Polytechnic Institute, or
- Graduate from any stream
Other than this….
- IITs, IIMS, IISERS, NIDS, IIITS, or pass students from National Law University
- CA, CMS, MBBS, CS, BDS, MBA or any other subject students
- Students who have any skills, training or students of the Central Government or State Government
- Under the National Apprenticeship Training Scheme (NATS) or National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS), candidates who complete training or apprenticeship cannot apply.

Candidates can apply for 5 internships at a time.

How to register for PM internship scheme?
- First of all the official website of PM Internship Scheme www.pminternship.mc.gov.in Go to
- Now choose your favorite language option from the top right corner
- After this click on 'Youth Registration'
- Now enter your 10-fit mobile number link to Aadhaar
- Enter OTP received on your mobile number and click on submit
- Set your password now
- Now you have to click on the 'My Current Status' tab to complete your profile on the dashboard.
- Fill all the information sought in your profile, in this, details like educational qualification, bank account number will be sought from you
- To complete the registration, you have to use EKYC using Aadhaar or Digilocker

- First enter your Aadhaar number
- Now click Consent to provide consent for Aadhaar verification
- Read all the terms and conditions carefully before proceeding
- Now enter OTP sent to your Aadhaar link mobile number
- Click on 'Verify OTP' and after that click on 'Verify & Proceed'
- After following all these steps, your Aadhaar EKYC will be completed
