The government has decided to buy two lakh 30 thousand tons of fertilizer for use in the agricultural sector of the country. The fertilizer will be imported from Singapore, Russia, Canada, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Qatar and Saudi Arabia. Against a total of seven proposals, including three of the Ministry of Agriculture and four of the Ministry of Industry, 230,000 metric tons of different types of fertilizers will be imported. The total expenditure of the government will be 900 crore 86 lakh 64 thousand taka.
This approval was given in the committee meeting chaired by Finance Advisor Salahuddin Ahmed in the conference room of the Cabinet Division of the Secretariat on Thursday (November 21).
According to sources in the meeting, the proposal to import fertilizer was given by the Ministry of Industry. In one of these proposals, the Advisory Council Committee approved the import of 30,000 metric tons of bulk prilled urea fertilizer from Saudi Arabia in the eighth lot. According to the agreement with Saudi Arabia, 30 thousand metric tons of bulk prilled urea fertilizer will be imported by fixing the price of fertilizer. The total cost will be 1 crore 9 lakh 50 thousand dollars as 365 US dollars per metric ton. Its amount in Bangladeshi currency is 131 crore 40 lakh taka.
Besides, the advisory council committee approved another proposal to import 30 thousand metric tons of bulk granular urea fertilizer from Saudi Arabia in the ninth lot. 1 crore 7 lakh 49 thousand 900 dollars will be spent on importing 30 thousand tons of urea as 358.33 US dollars per metric ton. Its amount in Bangladeshi currency is 128 crore 99 lakh 88 thousand taka.
Approval has been given to import 30,000 metric tonnes of murate-of-potash (MOP) fertilizer from Russia in the fourth lot under the state-level agreement. According to the pricing method mentioned in the fertilizer import agreement with the country, importing this fertilizer from Russia will cost 86 lakh 92 thousand 500 US dollars at the current international market price of fertilizer. Its amount in Bangladeshi currency is 104 crore 31 lakh taka. The price of MOP fertilizer will be 289.75 USD per metric ton.
Following the proposal of the Ministry of Agriculture in the meeting, the proposal to import 40 thousand metric tons of murate-of-potash (MOP) fertilizer from Canada under the contract at the state level in the seventh lot has been approved. According to the pricing method mentioned in the Fertilizer Import Agreement, the import of this fertilizer from Canada will cost 1 crore 15 lakh 90 thousand dollars at the current international market price. Its amount in Bangladeshi currency is 139 crore 8 lakh taka. The price of MOP fertilizer will be 289.75 dollars per metric ton.

Its amount in Bangladeshi currency is 139 crore 8 lakh taka. The price of MOP fertilizer per metric ton is 289.75 dollars.

A contract to import 3 lakh 60 thousand metric tons of urea fertilizer was signed at the state level. According to the agreement, the price of fertilizer will be determined in the first lot, 30 thousand metric tons of bulk granular urea fertilizer will cost 1 crore 7 lakh 49 thousand 900 US dollars. Its amount in Bangladeshi currency is 128 crore 99 lakh 88 thousand taka. The price of urea fertilizer per metric ton is fixed at 358.33 USD.
Following another proposal from the Ministry of Industry, the Advisory Council Committee has approved the import of 30,000 metric tons of bulk granular urea fertilizer in the fifth lot from Qatar Energy Marketing through a state contract. According to the agreement with Qatar, the price of fertilizer is set at 358.33 US dollars per metric ton, and the import of 30 thousand metric tons of bulk granular urea fertilizer will cost 1 crore 7 lakh 49 thousand 900 dollars. Its amount in Bangladeshi currency is 128 crore 99 lakh 88 thousand taka.
