Russian President Vladimir Putin has said they have a stockpile of powerful new technology hypersonic missiles. And these missiles are also ready for use in the battlefield. In an unexpected TV address on Friday (November 22), he promised to carry out further tests of the missile. The Russian leader made such a statement a day after Russia launched a new ballistic missile in the city of Dnipro, Ukraine. British media reported the news.
Russia's use of the Oration missile raised tensions in the war that week, after Ukraine used US and British missiles to strike inside Russia for the first time.
In Friday's speech, the Russian leader also said that it is not possible to intercept the 'Orationic' missile. Orationic hypersonic missiles travel 10 times faster than the speed of sound. Putin ordered it into production.
Earlier, he said, they used these missiles in response to Ukraine's use of Storm Shadow and Atacamas missiles.
Initially thought to be an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), Moscow later said it was a new generation hypersonic missile. This missile can also carry ICBM-like nuclear weapons, Putin said.
According to information provided by Putin, the missile launched on Thursday was named 'Orationik'. It is an intermediate-range hypersonic ballistic missile. But according to the United States and the Western military alliance NATO, it was an intermediate-range ballistic missile. It can hit targets at a distance of 5,500 km.
Justin Crump, CEO of Sibyline Risk Advisory Company, said Moscow used the attack as a warning. He also said that this missile is so fast and advanced that it can pose a major challenge to Ukraine's air defense system.
