Lutfuzzaman Babar, BNP leader and former state minister for home affairs, is seriously ill in Dhaka Central Jail (Keraniganj). He is suffering from various diseases including shortness of breath, complicated kidney problems, back pain. Babar has been in prison for 17 years.
On Friday (November 8) night, Deputy Inspector General of Prisons (DIG Prisons) of Dhaka Division. Jahangir Kabir said, Lutfuzzaman Babar is suffering from various diseases. Therefore, on the advice of the jail doctor and the civil surgeon, letters were sent to the hospital authorities to send doctors for the diseases concerned.
For that reason, the BSMMU authorities have informed the Dhaka Central Jail authorities that they will send four doctors to jail on Saturday (November 9).
Director of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Brigadier General Md. Rezaur Rahman said, the civil surgeon has given us a letter on behalf of the prison. According to the letter, a medical board from the hospital will go to the prison on Saturday to check the physical condition of former home minister Lutfuzzaman Babar.
It is known that Lutfuzzaman Babar's relatives said that he was seriously ill many times during the regime of Sheikh Hasina but was not given proper treatment.
