1. Gold increased by ₹ 1386 to ₹ 1.36 lakh per 10 grams: Silver became costlier by ₹ 2,513 and was being sold at ₹ 2.37 lakh per kg, see gold rates according to carat.
An increase was seen in the prices of gold and silver on Monday, January 5. According to India Bullion and Jewelers Association (IBJA), the price of 10 grams of 24 carat gold has increased by Rs 1,386 to Rs 1,36,168. Earlier it was at Rs 1,34,782.
At the same time, the price of one kg silver has increased by Rs 2,513 to Rs 2,37,063. Earlier its price was Rs 2,34,550 per kg. Earlier, on December 29, 2025, gold had reached an all-time high of Rs 1,38,161 and silver had reached an all-time high of Rs 2,43,483.

2. Government should consider increasing EPFO’s salary limit of ₹ 15,000: SC said – no change has been made for 11 years; Instructions to take decision in 4 months

The Supreme Court has directed the Central Government to consider increasing the salary limit (wage ceiling) of the Employee Provident Fund Organization (EPFO). The court has said that there has been no change in this limit for the last 11 years, hence the government should take a decision on this within the next 4 months.
At present, employees receiving monthly salary of more than ₹ 15,000 are out of the mandatory scope of this social security scheme. The bench of Justice JK Maheshwari and Justice AS Chandurkar gave this order on the petition of activist Naveen Prakash Nautiyal.

4. If there is no Aadhaar link, IRCTC booking will become more strict from today: There will be no 8AM-4PM reservation, this rule is for the first day of booking opening only.

From January 5, IRCTC users without Aadhaar link will not be able to book tickets from 8 am to 4 pm. This rule will be applicable only on the first day of opening of reserved rail ticket booking. Booking of reserved tickets opens 60 days before the date of train departure.
Railways is implementing this rule in three phases. The first phase came into effect from December 29. The second phase has started from today and the third phase will be implemented from January 12.
