British hospital running on paper due to cyber attack

A UK hospital is on paper due to a cyber attack. The hospital's IT system in north-west England has been down since Tuesday as a precautionary measure. In this situation, the country's health service authorities have ordered to carry out paperwork. This situation may continue throughout the week, a statement said.

Wirral University Teaching Hospital, victim of the cyber attack, said in a statement that healthcare operations are continuing as normal. But paper is being used instead of technology. Affected systems are isolated as a precautionary measure after suspicious activity is detected. As a result, some IT systems had to be shut down.

“We are working to resolve the matter with the help of the National Cyber Security Service, so that we can return to normal service as quickly as possible,” the statement added.

The hospital, run by British healthcare authority the National Health Service (NHS), did not provide details about the cyber attack. However, it is believed that their digital system has been subjected to a ransomware attack.

The NHS Trust said patients who had an appointment or doctor's appointment are being served. But the appointment letter should be in hand.

The incident first came to light last Monday evening. Victims of cyberattacks are discouraged from going to hospital emergency departments unless the condition is serious or the patient is unconscious. The NHS recommends that serious injuries, such as broken bones and joint problems, go to a hospital's emergency treatment center (UTC).

In addition, it has been asked to call 999 for emergencies and 111 for general health problems. Beyond that, contact with a nearby emergency medical center or general healthcare practitioner is advised.
