Interim Government Information and Broadcasting Adviser Nahid Islam has commented that there may be a conspiracy behind the attempt to create instability in the country. He said, an attempt is being made to create a planned instability. The previous fascist regime continues to spread disinformation in various ways. So many events in one day cannot be a coincidence. We are investigating who is behind this fuel. Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan said that the information will be released after investigating whether there is fuel.
They said these things at a press conference at Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Monday (November 25). Information and Broadcasting Adviser Nahid Islam, Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, Chief Adviser Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam, Deputy Press Secretary Apoorba Jahangir were present in the press conference.
This is not a coincidence
In response to the question whether there is a conspiracy behind the ongoing unrest, Nahid Islam said that there is a planned attempt to create unrest. If there is no big plan, so much happening in one day, it is not a coincidence. We think there is a multi-faceted plan here. Many may not want the government to do administrative work successfully. Our previous fascist government continues to spread misinformation in various ways. But we think, there has been a big change in the police. We are planning to bring changes in the administration to break the stagnation of the administration. We suspect that there is an attempt to divert the attention of the whole country to this, to keep us too busy with these events to subvert these issues. We are investigating it. Who is involved in the fuel inside or outside the country? We are in a post-coup situation. Everyone has a revolutionary spirit. There is excitement. We will make that appeal to the people so that we use it positively. I will request political and social organizations to create awareness in this regard. The unity that we had in the people's uprising, but the government has a share in everyone. That's why I expect everyone to play a responsible role in the current situation.
When asked if there is fuel, Asif Mahmud said, many types of information are available. However, nothing can be said until a proper investigation is done. Investigation will reveal the true facts.
The police were weak
In response to the question why the students could not be controlled, whether there was any weakness of the police in this regard, Nahid Islam said that the police was weak to take appropriate measures. We admit, seeing that there was weakness, the incident turned into a confrontation. But the entire police force is in a restructuring process. So many students have come down to that place. It could have gone much worse if the police confronted the students. Because of this initially the police may have tried to stop. They did not engage in conflict. Later, police and army united to control the situation. The police have been reshuffled to make them more powerful. It will continue. Where it fails, changes will be made.
Asked why the police could not control the situation, Adviser Asif Mahmud said that it was the practice in the past to quell the riots, which would have led to untoward incidents. For this, the police tried to stop the students. However, students overcome that obstacle. Law and order forces did not take any action even after going to the spot. Appropriate legal action will be taken against those involved in such incidents.
Asif Mahmud pointed out that the government wants to avoid the measures taken to deal with riots and adopt international standard measures. We have a plan to change this riot management system. Those who come into the new leadership will train accordingly. In the future, such incidents should not happen, where the police have to shoot against or against people. That's why the police have to prepare. We need time to bring reforms in every sector to build our country. We urge everyone to be patient. Instead of resorting to violence, we should proceed constructively.
Asif Mahmud said that unpleasant incidents have been happening in various colleges of Dhaka for some days, we are repeatedly calling on the students to be patient without stepping on any provocation. The college authorities and the government can participate in their demands. This can be solved.
'We have not received any news of casualties'
Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan said that the incident of Mahbubur Rahman Mollah College started six days ago, we have seen from different places on social media, there was a news that three people were killed. But so far we have not received any news of anyone being killed. It was not confirmed by various means. We have not received such news in any established media.
Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan said, many were injured, admitted to the hospital – we have come to know this. They are being treated.
He said that the process of taking legal action in the matter of who is involved, vandalism and injuries is going on, he said, such incidents will not be tolerated in any way. Law and order forces tried their best to avoid any kind of confrontation. In no way should the students clash with the law enforcement agencies and should not clash among themselves. The college authorities were trying for that, but the clash could not be avoided in any way.
What happened is unexpected
Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said in response to a question that the law and order forces were already alert. But we are moving away from the standard protocol to deal with riots, because of people's expectations. Let the police lathicharge someone—nobody wants to see that now. Today the student incident has been blocked. However, what happened is undesirable.
He said, as far as I know about the arrest of Chinmoy Das, he has been detained. There is a case against him in Kotwali police station. DMP will give details in this regard.
It has been an eventful day
Referring to the eventful days, Nahid Islam said that ordinary people were brought to Dhaka in buses and microbuses from early morning under the banner of non-violent popular uprising in the name of giving loans. They bring people with false propaganda. Their convener has been taken into police custody. People have been made aware of the fact that it is false.
'I do not support pressure to vandalize and close newspaper offices'
Regarding the tension over Dainik Prothom Alo, he said that their office was vandalized on Monday in Rajshahi. Protests took place in various places including Chittagong, Brahmanbaria. Our point is that if there is grievance and anger of any section of people against any media, it can express it. But it must be peaceful. We do not support vandalizing any newspaper office and pressuring for its closure. Subsequent occurrences of such incidents will not be tolerated. Legal action will be taken against those involved in vandalism. Legal action can be taken if there is a specific complaint against someone. We urge people not to participate in anarchic situations. We should refrain from such activities that spoil the image of Bangladesh.
